The 1931 bronze credits Reading alone; the state's register, for this landmark, still says Reading and his Indian laborers. Neither names their people. The bronze now stands at the entrance to the Win River Casino, run by the Redding Rancheria, the tribe formed in 1939 by Wintu, Pit River and Yana families on a rancheria the government had created in 1922. The gold it describes was found about five miles up Clear Creek at Reading's Bar, landmark 32, where a 1998 bronze leaves the laborers out too.
