Middle Bar

Jackson, Amador County · California

This one is only sometimes drowned. Middle Bar sits on the Mokelumne inside the Pardee pool, and the state's own text says the site is inundated at certain times of the year, which means the town comes back whenever the water goes down. English miners founded it in 1850 and a mine nearby worked gold quartz. No plaque was ever put here, and the people who keep the missing plaque lists have no photograph of one either.
