Congregational Church

Mokelumne Hill, Calaveras County · California

The congregation is older than the building and the building is the oldest of its kind in California. Members organised on 28 August 1853 and worshipped for three years before the church went up in 1856, which makes this the oldest Congregational church building in the state and not the oldest congregation. Mokelumne Hill burned in 1854, 1864 and 1874 and the church came through all three. No plaque has ever been placed on it.
