Louis Moore

Waco, McLennan County · Texas
Erected 1989

Chalk Bluff took its name from the Austin chalk above the Brazos, and the Handbook of Texas says railroads bypassed it by two miles in 1882, so it stayed a farm community. Another Texas Historical Commission marker in this cemetery says Louis Moore received title to a quarter league on the river's east bank above Waco Village on August 20, 1835. He buried his family on the highest point of his land, and the Moore Spring Cemetery Association formed in 1921. The family plot grew into a community cemetery of more than eleven acres, now bounded by homes.
