Liberty Park Veterans Memorial
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Liberty Park is Salt Lake City's oldest public park, a green square of old trees and pathways near downtown, and like many such parks it gathered its civic memorials over the years — among them this tribute to veterans of the wars. Placing a war memorial in a park rather than on a courthouse lawn is its own quiet statement: it sets remembrance amid recreation, where families picnic and children play, so that the cost of the freedom being enjoyed sits in plain sight of the enjoying.
