Leamington Honor Roll

Leamington, Millard County · Utah

A town like Leamington — a few hundred people making railroad ties and charcoal on the banks of the Sevier — is a long way from the trenches of France. Yet the Great War reached even here, pulling the young men of a remote Utah farm hamlet into a conflict fought across an ocean, and some did not come back. This honor roll at the town center keeps their names against the forgetting that small places fear most. It is a reminder that the twentieth century's largest catastrophes were assembled out of towns exactly this size.
