Ladies' Literary Club Building
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA
The women who built this clubhouse had been meeting since 1877. The Ladies' Literary Club of Salt Lake City, organized that year, is one of the oldest women's clubs in the United States — part of a national movement in which women, barred from much of public life, made their own institutions for learning and civic action. In 1913 the club raised this building of its own, designed by the prominent firm of Ware and Treganza. From it the members pressed for the culture and beauty of their city, as they had done, by then, for a generation.
