Jordan Sales Building

Sedona — 5, Coconino County County · Arizona
Erected by City of Sedona

Before tourism, Sedona grew apples and peaches, and this red-rock building is where the fruit was sold. George Jordan raised it around 1938 as a cooperative outlet for the orchard families of Oak Creek, his own among them, marketing the harvest that was then the canyon's cash crop. Built of the native sandstone that gives Uptown Sedona its color, it was a cornerstone of the district's early commercial life. The Jordan family's nearby ranch is now the Sedona Heritage Museum, but this storefront remembers when the town's business was fruit.
