John Rockey Park Statue
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA
John R. Park is the man the university counts its history from—its first president, remembered as the one who built a frontier school into something lasting. His former students wanted him in bronze, and they raised the money slowly, dollar by grateful dollar, until the statue was finally set into the left alcove of the building that bears his name. Look to the right alcove and you'll find its pedestal empty. The U never scraped together the funds for a companion, so Park stands his post alone.
