Dan Jones, Missionary
Provo, Utah County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1993
On his last night alive, Joseph Smith lay on the floor of Carthage Jail beside the Welsh sea captain Dan Jones and asked if he was afraid to die. Then he promised Jones he would yet see Wales and finish his mission. By morning Smith was dead and Jones, sent off with a letter, had ridden through gunfire unharmed. He kept the promise many times over: across two missions he brought thousands of Welsh men and women into the faith, more converts than almost any missionary in church history. He is buried here in Provo, far from the sea.
