Congress Hall Site

This landmark has two addresses because the building moved. Congress Hall went up about 1867 on the Machado estate, a two-story board-and-batten public house, and in 1870 Vincent Llucia bought it and hauled it across the plaza to Calhoun and Wallace. He turned it into the post office in 1884 and his family ran that. It came down in 1939. No plaque marks any of this. The state panel standing at the corner is about a motel dining room that opened here in 1942.
