Charles Stillman Bridge
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1987
Before the four-lane highway cut through Parley's Canyon, a bridge named for Charlie Stillman carried Wasatch Boulevard across the gully. Stillman was Salt Lake County's commissioner of roads and bridges from 1918 to 1922 and built the boulevard that gave the valley's southeast side its access to the canyon. The bridge that bore his name went up in 1938 and stood until 1964, when it was removed for the modern overpass. When crews tore it down, they saved the bronze plaque from the old span — it is set into this monument, raised by the Sons of Utah Pioneers.
