Bryte VFW Memorial Hall

No state plaque marks the landmark, and the one bronze on the hall remembers Jordan Ramos, who built it in 1946 as a movie house. What the state registered in 2019 came after. In 1950 Maidu and Miwok veterans founded Post 9054 here, the first all-Indian chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in California, sharing the hall with Post 9498, which owned it. Dances staged at first as intermission entertainment brought traditional Miwok dancing back before the public, and a photograph of about 1950 shows Bill Franklin's dance group, possibly on this floor.
