Brigham Young Winter Home
St. George, Washington County · Utah
Erected by NA
St. George winters were Brigham Young's prescription for old age. The desert warmth eased the rheumatism that Salt Lake City's cold aggravated, and from 1873 until his death in 1877 he spent each winter in this house. The original adobe portion was begun in 1860 and finished in 1871; when Young bought it, he added the two-story front wing completed in 1873. Restored and furnished to the period, the home operates today as a historic site with free guided tours — one of the most visited old buildings in town.
