Historical Marker
Benjamin W. Hardin
Liberty, Liberty County · Texas
Erected 1936
The stone is brief, so the family record fills in. Benjamin Hardin married Adelia Coleman in Liberty County on January 8, 1828, and they had four children, two of whom lived beyond childhood. He received a league of land in 1831 and served as sheriff of the Liberty District before the county elected him sheriff in 1839; he held that office until 1845. A rancher and farmer, he was a founding member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge in 1849 and died at his homestead the following January.
