Archibalt Gardner Mill
Taylorsville, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected, 1995
Archibald Gardner built thirty-odd mills across the West, and his real love was the building, not the running — he'd sell a finished mill almost at a loss just to start the next. He framed them the old way, mortise and pin, no nails. Years later a crew tearing one down couldn't budge it until the elderly Gardner pointed out the single key brace. This 1880 Taylorsville mill, later run by the Bennion family and among the valley's first roller mills, burned in 1909. A marker on Sunstone Road stands where it milled.
