Anza Expedition Camp at Burlingame

No state plaque stands here; the private bronze on the boulder repeats the state's own listing, down to its directions. Font's diary gives the evening. Earlier that day, at a Lamchin village near present Belmont, men pointed to an arrow wound in one man's leg and warned the party off the villages ahead. Here, in Ssalson country, strangers appeared on a hill at sunset and fled, and the villagers who came into camp signed that they had chased off their enemies and seemed to urge the Spanish to stay. Font judged them fit for a large mission.

No. 48 Anza Expedition Camp The Anza Expedition of 1776, on its way up the Peninsula to locate sites for the Presidio and the Mission of San Francisco, camped here on March 26 at a dry watercourse a short league beyond Arroyo de San Mateo. Location: El Camino Real and Ralston, Burlingame
