ZCMI Co-Op Building
Wallsburg, Wasatch County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1995
By the time the cooperative reached Wallsburg, it had already spread to over a hundred and fifty towns across the mountains. Few were smaller or more tucked away than this one. Round Valley held a few hundred people, a long wagon ride from anywhere. Still, in 1890 a branch of Zion's cooperative opened here, the Wallsburg Mercantile: the same beehive network that ran the big store in Salt Lake, shrunk to fit a farming hamlet. It sold what the valley needed and kept its doors open until 1960, long after the movement that built it had faded elsewhere.
