Vásquez House
Monterey, Monterey County · California
Nothing cast marks this house. A painted signboard on a post calls it the former family home of Tiburcio Vásquez; the state register says only that his sister lived here. It began as a one-storey adobe that his mother bought in the 1830s, and little of that shows now. A wooden second storey and a back room were added in the 1920s. The City of Monterey owns the building, and the house known for a bandit has served as offices for the city's recreation department.
