Historical Marker
Tom Sun Ranch
Natrona County · Wyoming
Erected by Oregon Trail Memorial Association, 1930
Meeker was dead when this stone went up. He died on December 3, 1928, days short of his ninety-eighth birthday, and the association he had founded in 1926 set it in 1930. His visits are on record. He came through on his 1906 ox-team trek, setting a marker at Independence Rock on July 3, returned with oxen in 1910 and by automobile in 1916, flew over the trail in an Army plane in 1924, and crossed it a last time in a touring car at ninety-six. In 1930 President Hoover's proclamation commended him by name.
