Stoker School
Bountiful, Davis County · Utah
Erected by NA
For a hundred and twelve years the corner held Bountiful's school. Stoker School went up in 1904 on the foundations of the old Central School, two brick stories on land once owned by John Stoker, whose name it kept. Generations passed through as grade-schoolers; after 1981 the University of Utah taught extension classes here, hundreds of students a term. The brick itself was the flaw — unreinforced, seismically unfit — and after years of argument the city took the building down in 2017. Its ground became Bountiful's downtown plaza: a town square where the school stood.
