Skirmishes at Prairie D'Ane
Prescott, Nevada County · Arkansas
Erected 2012
Prairie D'Ane is about thirty square miles of open, rolling land ringed by forest. It stayed in private hands for many years and looked much as it did in 1864. The Confederates had spent six days building earthworks when Steele arrived on April 10, and the Union army dug in about a mile away. On April 11 Steele formed a battle line more than two miles long and did not attack. On February 23, 2018, a ceremony presented the deed to 808 acres of the battlefield to the Nevada County Depot and Museum.
