San Buenaventura Mission Aqueduct
Ventura, Ventura County · California
No plaque about the aqueduct stands at the ruin. Two sections of cobble-and-mortar viaduct survive on private land beside Cañada Larga Road, part of a seven-mile channel Chumash workers built under the mission's priests to carry water down to the settling tank behind the mission; floods broke it in 1862. Nearby, a 2009 Clampers bronze tells the story of Rancho Cañada Larga, granted in 1841 to Joaquina Alvarado de Moraga, widow of the soldier Gabriel Moraga, and mentions the ruins only in passing. The county's 2019 sign is illustrated.
