Mission San Buenaventura

Erected by Daughters of the American Revolution, Mitz-Khan-A-Khan Chapter, 2018
No state plaque stands at the mission; the bronze on its front was cast in 2018 by a Daughters of the American Revolution chapter that took its name, Mitz-Khan-A-Khan, from Mitsqanaqa'n, the Chumash town on which the mission was founded in 1782. The mission's registers record 3,875 baptisms and 3,150 burials. The present church was begun in 1793 and finished in 1809. A plate added below the bronze records its elevation to a minor basilica by Pope Francis on June 9, 2020.
