Portolá Expedition Camp at Gazos Creek
Pescadero, San Mateo County · California
In 2020 the state amended this landmark and renamed it for the village rather than the camp: Quiroste Village. Its own register never printed the change. The county page and the landmark's detail page both still read Portolá Expedition Camp, the pin still sits at the mouth of Gazos Creek, and the amendment's own account puts the 23 October meeting a mile and a half south at Whitehouse Creek. Nothing was ever cast here. On this ground the name is the only thing that has moved.
