Coming back south on 19 November 1769, the column passed a league wide of the Casa Grande and found it deserted, then camped on a steep rock by a stream in sight of the point Vizcaíno's expedition had named in the first days of 1603. Twenty-two years later this country sheltered the Quiroste leader Charquin, baptized at Mission San Francisco in 1791 and gone within days. He harbored mission runaways here until soldiers took him in 1793. That December the Quiroste partly burned Mission Santa Cruz. Nothing marks the camp.
