Historical Marker
Old Rock Creek Stage Crossing
Arlington, Carbon County · Wyoming
Erected by Inez Kortes, 1914
The stone was a private act: Inez Kortes of Elk Mountain set it in June 1914, the same season the state's commission was planting its granite shafts. What it marks was a home station, where Joe Bush bridged the creek and ran a dance hall, saloon, store and blacksmith shop out of one building. The settlement outlived the coaches by turning to cattle and timber, took a post office called Rock Dale in 1882 and the name Arlington after 1902. Its log and frame buildings may be the only frame Overland Trail structures left in Wyoming.
