Oil Boomtowns
Midwest, Natrona County · Wyoming
Erected by Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources and the Town of Midwest, 2025
Of the board's vanished boomtowns, Lavoye did not fade; it was evicted. Named for the homesteader Louis Lavoye, it grew from a tent camp to a town of about 1,800 people, with two banks and a Ford dealership, on ground an oil company said it needed for drilling. In 1924 the Ohio Oil Company served eviction notices on the whole town, Louis Lavoye declined to contest the suit, and over the next year its buildings were hauled away to New Lavoye, Midwest and Edgerton. New Lavoye did not last either.
