Ogden Canyon Toll Gate
Ogden, Weber County · Utah
Erected, 1934
For twenty-two years, the road up Ogden Canyon cost money. Lorin Farr and Isaac Goodale built the first route through the canyon and set a toll gate near this spot in November 1860; from 1865 the Ogden Canyon Road Company ran it, with John Taylor among the principal stockholders and James Dinsdale keeping the gate for fourteen years. The tolls ended on February 20, 1882, when the canyon became a public road. It still is — the drive up to Pineview Reservoir follows the route the tolls paid for.
