Historical Marker
Major Robert McNutt
Hutto, Williamson County · Texas
Erected 1963
The stone gives two dates and San Jacinto; the Handbook of Texas fills in the man between them. McNutt enlisted at eighteen in 1813, later ran an inn and speculated in land in Tennessee, and in 1818 married Mary Jackson, with whom he had ten children. The family reached Texas in 1834 and settled near Bellville in Austin County. On March 1, 1836, he joined two lieutenants in forming a company of Austin County volunteers to relieve the Alamo. He later served as Austin County tax assessor and collector, and in 1851 he moved near Georgetown.
