Home of Lotta Crabtree
Grass Valley, Nevada County · California
The state registered this address in 1938 and never put a plaque on it, so the landmark exists only on paper. The girl who lived here was six when she began learning to sing and dance from the woman up the street. She left Grass Valley in 1856, became the most highly paid actress in America, never married, and at her death in 1924 left a fortune of roughly four million dollars almost entirely to charity — veterans, students, animals, and aging actors.
