Double Springs

Two highway monuments point at this place and neither stands in it. One reads one mile, the other two, and both carry the same sentence about a courthouse said to be built of lumber brought from China. The town was founded in February 1850 and became the county seat almost immediately. The courthouse was moved off its original site and later came down; what survives is a smaller building made from its materials, on display at the county museum in San Andreas.
