Columbus State Bank
Columbus, Colorado County · Texas
Erected 1973
The plaque reads the building as a record of reuse; the bank inside has its own long record. Federal deposit-insurance files date its establishment to August 19, 1919, and its main office still stands at 1102 Milam Street, where it operates as a state-chartered bank. A drive-in facility on Spring Street followed in April 1981. On January 1, 2025, it absorbed Hill Bank & Trust Co. of Weimar, the next town west, and kept that bank's Main Street office open as a branch.
What the plaque says
Columbus State Bank History is preserved in this structure. At founding (1919), this institution, in erecting its bank, retained a wall of 1857 Boedecker Building that had housed many ventures, including city's first bank (1875). In 1969 rebuilding, Columbus State Bank again used some parts of prior structures. (1973)
