Coast Guard Lightship WLV 605 - Relief (decommissioned)
Oakland, Alameda County · California
The name on the hull is a job, not a christening. Lightships carried the name of the station they marked, so this one wore OVERFALLS off the Delaware coast from 1951 and BLUNTS REEF off Cape Mendocino from 1959. In 1969 it took the name RELIEF, standing in on any West Coast station while the regular ship went in for repairs. Retired in 1975, it passed to a private owner, who gave it to the United States Lighthouse Society in 1986, and volunteers sailed it back from Half Moon Bay the next year. No plaque marks it.
