Cleveland County Court House
Toledo, Cleveland County · Arkansas
Erected 1936
This was Dorsey County until 1885. The legislature created it on April 17, 1873, and named it for Senator Stephen Dorsey, who was later accused with partners of defrauding the Post Office of $412,000; he was found not guilty, but the case ended his ambitions. The county took President Grover Cleveland's name on March 5, 1885. Toledo, once a post office called Pleasant Ridge, was the seat from 1873. Its frame courthouse burned on March 9, 1889, and after two contested elections the state supreme court named Rison the seat on April 11, 1891.
