Centennial Time Capsule
Marshall County · South Dakota
Erected by Northeast South Dakota Lake Region Association Centennial Committee, 1964
The capsule went into the ground on July 25, 1964, a week short of the hundredth anniversary of the day the 30th Wisconsin began the fort, August 1, 1864. Nine committee names follow on the plaque, among them Robert Perry, the man whose petitions had made the fort a state park in 1959. Since the capsule was sealed the fort has been listed on the National Register, on May 10, 1973, and each June brings a three-day festival of cavalry camps and a costume ball. Beside it a brick pillar carries the WPA's 1939 rebuilding plaque.
