Birthplace of Billy Lee Riley
Pocahontas, Randolph County · Arkansas
Riley's career did not end with Sun. He left the label in 1960 and co-founded Rita Records with guitarist Roland Janes, and the label put out Harold Dorman's Mountain of Love. Riley later played the harmonica solo on Johnny Rivers's version. In 1962 he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a session musician for Dean Martin, the Beach Boys, Herb Alpert and Sammy Davis Jr. In the early 1970s he quit music and started a construction business in Arkansas. Covers of his songs by Robert Gordon and Link Wray in 1978 drew him back.
