Historical Marker
Beaverhead Rock
Beaverhead County · Montana
The rock named the river and then Montana's largest county, and it entered the National Register in 1970. As a state park it holds almost nothing: no restrooms, no tables, no staff. Accounts of reaching it disagree, the National Park Service and the state's travel listing calling it viewable only from this pull-off while the state parks page invites a hike to the top. The park service's survey of expedition sites added a warning that rock and gravel removal at its base had threatened the landmark's integrity.
