Aurland

Brown County · South Dakota
Erected by the Senior Ladies Aid, 1961

The congregation came from Aurland in Norway's Sogn district, and the church its members raised between 1903 and 1905 was patterned on the one they had left. The National Register plate on its wall, placed after the listing of April 16, 1982, gives 1908; the stamped history beside it says 1905. Services ended in 1953, the records went to St. Paul's Lutheran in Frederick, and descendants of the charter families still keep the church and cemetery. The capstone came from Lewis Tveit's pasture; his parents head the roster.
