Yucca House
Melrose, Natchitoches County · Louisiana
What the ground says about Yucca House differs from older tellings. A 1970s assessment dated it to the mid-1790s, but three land surveys of 1813 put Louis Metoyer's residence south of the Red River, and ceramics suggest occupation began after 1810. Excavated glass and nails show people living here around 1807-1821, 1874-1888 and 1916-1930. The name Yucca Plantation has no documentary support, so older dates and names should be read with care. Cammie Henry oversaw its renovation in those last years.
