YRF-4C Phantom II
Houma, Terrebonne County · Louisiana
This jet is a test airframe, and its path to Houma ran through Illinois. Serial 62-12201 was the second RF-4C built. It began as a Navy F4H-1, was converted on McDonnell's line into a YRF-110A Spectre, and was later redesignated RF-4C. The Air Force used it in development testing of General Electric J79 engines. In June 1978 it went to Chanute Air Force Base for ground instruction as a GRF-4C. After Chanute closed, it went to the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum in Rantoul, and when that museum closed in 2015 it moved to Houma.
