Wm. B. Middleton
Leona, Leon County · Texas
Erected 1936
Middleton's story runs on after the white bean. William B. Middleton was born in Illinois in 1819 and came to Leon County with his family in 1837. The family helped build Fort Boggy. On the Mier Expedition he drew a white bean in the Black Bean Episode, and so did a brother; the plaque names Beoni Middleton, who died in prison. After two years in Mexico he married Mary Jane Potts in December 1845, served as a lieutenant in the Mexican War, was elected sheriff three times and went to the Texas House in 1855 and 1859.
