The Ouachita Candy Company Building
Monroe, Ouachita County · Louisiana
Cleanup came before redevelopment. KNOE puts the building's construction at 1920 and calls it a hub for local manufacturing that sat dormant for years. After Monroe bought it in 2021, the city used an EPA Brownfields grant to clean and prepare the site, and by August 2025 the work had reached abatement. Crews found church pews, benches and architectural doors inside, and the city auctioned them online from August 27 to September 12, 2025. On March 11, 2026, KNOE reported the city council approving the move forward on redevelopment.
