The Great Divide Trophy
Jefferson County · Montana
The trophy on the panel began with fans, not the schools. Norm Jones, a Grizzlies fan, and about twenty others commissioned the Montana wildlife artist Dave Samuelson once the universities had approved, and Samuelson painted Bear Mountain, also called Trophy Rock, then modeled the bronze on it, hiding a grizzly and a bobcat among the rocks reaching for the football. It stands about three feet tall and weighs 306 pounds. Montana won it first, in 2001, and players rubbing it for luck have worn its surface since.
