Stone Corral

Valley Springs, Calaveras County · California

This was a place to stop, and the thing it was named for was the fence. Stone Corral had a hotel and barns and the large stone corrals that gave it the name, on the road that carried ore and passengers down from the mines to Stockton. Holding stock overnight was the business. Nothing of the corral, the hotel or the barns has been found on the ground, and the state has never marked the site.
