St. Mary's of the Assumption (3) Markers
Park City, Summit County · Utah
Erected by NA
Park City's mines drew Irish and other Catholic immigrants, and in 1883 they built themselves a church — St. Mary of the Assumption, which stands as the oldest Catholic church and school building still in use anywhere in Utah. Fire badly damaged it in the mid-twentieth century, and it was rebuilt in 1950, but it has never stopped serving the parish that raised it. In a territory built by and for the Latter-day Saints, it is a reminder of the many other faiths the mining camps brought to the mountains.
