St. Joseph Co-Cathedral
Thibodaux, Lafourche County · Louisiana
Inside, the church answers to its architect. Joseph A. Robichaux drew it in pressed brick with stone trim, twin towers and a rose window under a terra cotta roof. A 34-foot baldachin in the apse is carved with symbols of the four Evangelists, and the dome carries the Tree of Knowledge, the Tree of Life and peacocks for the risen Christ. When fire took the earlier church, relics of Saint Valerie survived, and they now rest in a glass sarcophagus. The building joined the National Register in 1986.
