Site of Wood's Ferry and Wood's Bridge
Woodbridge, San Joaquin County · California
Nothing marks the crossing. The state's register calls the man Wood in this entry and Woods in the next one, for the town; he was Jeremiah H. Woods, who reached the Mokelumne in 1852, finished a cabin, then built a ferryboat. Six years later he put a toll bridge where the ferry had run, charging a dollar for a wagon and a pair of animals and fifty cents for each pair beyond it, so the bigger the freight team the more it paid. The present bridge stands near the old crossing.
