Site of the Home of James McGloin

San Patricio, San Patricio County · Texas
Erected 1936

The plaque gives the colony's dates; McGloin's own life was a run of exile and return. He came from the townland of Castlegal in County Sligo, where five generations of his family had farmed, and kept a store with John McMullen in Matamoros before their 1828 grant. He wrote an eyewitness account of the Matamoros expedition's ruin. After the revolution he took his family to San Antonio, where his wife Eliza died in 1844, the year McMullen sold him most of his San Patricio property for $5,000. The house site is private property with no public access.
