Site of the Home of George Thomas Wood
Point Blank, San Jacinto County · Texas
Erected 1936
Wood came to Point Blank by sloop, with enslaved people. The Handbook of Texas says he chartered the Marshall on February 16, 1839 to carry his family, slaves and household equipment from Apalachicola Bay to Texas. On the Trinity he managed a plantation and ran a mercantile business. After his 1853 defeat for governor he retired to his plantation home and began a larger house two miles from the river, on ground he thought healthier. He died on September 3, 1858, before it was finished.
